Environmental Education is an important tool for fostering environmental awareness and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, with lasting, long-term benefits to the living conditions of traditional communities.
The project “Implementation of Environmental Education and Income-generation Projects to Enhance Environmental Quality in Fishing Communities in the State of Rio de Janeiro” was created to run socioeconomic diagnostics and projects in community-building, income-generation and environmental-quality improvement among fishing communities along the state’s coast. The hope is that these projects will promote the conservation of coastal and marine biodiversity, the sustainable use of fisheries resources and more robust artisanal fishing practices.
The Environmental Education project is an environmental offset measure established through a Consent Decree/Conduct Adjustment Agreement between Chevron Brazil and the Brazilian Ministry for the Environment, with the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund – FUNBIO as implementer.
