The Nature Conservation Program in Volta Redonda – Green Again is held in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro, in the Middle Paraíba do Sul Valley, where, according to SOS Mata Atlântica, only 11% of the original forest cover remains.

The initiative will channel approximately R$ 6 million into expanding the municipality’s green area to 90 thousand m2 by reforesting lands for permanent preservation and creating a Botanical Garden on São João Island. A further 50 km of ecological corridors is planned to link forest fragments separated by urban settlements. The funds are provided through a Term of Environmental Commitment signed with the Federal and Rio de Janeiro State Public Prosecutors’ Offices, Volta Redonda City Hall and FUNBIO.
