Institution responsible: Mixed Cooperative of Small-Scale Farmers, Extractivists, Fisherfolk, floodplain farmers, Settlers and Tourist Guides of the Cerrado – COOPCERRADO
The project, which will last 18 months, aims to scale sustainable agroextractivism via qualified markets, that is, with added value through organic quality certifications and national and international fair trade, making it possible to improve the flow of agroextractivist production and present genuine products from the Cerrado, such as baru nuts, pequi and favela, to other countries, and thus avoid deforestation and the deterritorialization of traditional communities.
The project is expected to result in the preparation and certification of 9 indigenous villages, comprising 100 families in 45,000 hectares, in the municipalities of Ribeirão Cascalheira, Canarana and Campinápolis in the state of Mato Grosso, for organic participatory certification of sustainable extractivism, international organic certification and fair trade. In addition, it seeks to prepare and certify the fundo and fecho de pasto traditional communities, in the municipality of Correntina – BA, involving 10 families and 3,000 hectares. Another 13 communities in the municipalities of São Domingos – GO, Guarani – GO, Lassance – MG, Urucuia – MG, Arinos – MG and Pintópolis – MG will benefit, involving approximately 90 families.
The certified native species will be baru, favela, pequi, jatobá, sucupira, amburana, monkey pepper, jaborandi pepper, and vanilla, mainly.
