Federally-sourced environmental compensation payments account for a significant volume of funding, with the potential to change the way Protected Areas are financed over the short term. However, executing these funds has consistently run up against impediments, and this has badly hamstrung the instrument’s effectiveness. The aim of the subproject “Ensuring the Viability of Federal Environmental Compensation”, run in conjunction with the federal government, is to propose strategies to undo the disbursement bottlenecks and get the funding flowing into the PA system.
