Lead institution: Rede Contra Fogo
Caminho do Fogo is an innovative digital platform designed to support the coordination of fire brigades and strengthen Integrated Fire Management (IFM). The initiative aims to organize, empower, and increase the visibility of volunteer and community-based brigades by systematizing information on their needs, operational practices, and areas of action. By improving coordination and access to strategic information, the platform contributes to more effective and timely wildfire response in the Cerrado and other protected areas.
With Caminho do Fogo, the following capabilities will be enabled:
• Registration of fire brigades and individual firefighters with detailed profiles, including equipment inventories, completed training, and areas of operation.
• Real-time logging of alerts and wildfire incidents, allowing for accurate reporting and geospatial visualization of events.
• An automated notification system to alert users about new fires or emergencies in their region.
• Improved access to logistical and operational information for institutions, public authorities (including Sisfogo), and civil society organizations, strengthening coordination among the actors involved in fire management.
• Integrated and automated generation of Fire Occurrence Reports (FORs) and other relevant reporting formats.
• Territorial organization of data through an interactive mapping system, supporting analysis and decision-making.
• Nationwide mobilization of brigades and firefighters through a dedicated social-network-style platform focused on wildfire response and fire management.
The project will be implemented over a 12-month period in partnership with Rede Contra Fogo, a well-established organization based in Chapada dos Veadeiros with extensive experience as a community fire brigade. By the end of the project, the following outcomes are expected:
• A fully operational, accessible digital platform to support fire management efforts.
• Capacity building for firefighters enabling effective and widespread use of the tool.
• Enhanced wildfire response capacity, informed by organized data and strategic reporting.
• Improved access for brigades to funding, training, and equipment, strengthening their operational readiness.
• Structured information sharing with Sisfogo, supporting more efficient allocation of public resources for wildfire prevention and response.
Caminho do Fogo will make a direct contribution to the protection of areas of high ecological importance by empowering local communities and advancing an efficient and sustainable model of Integrated Fire Management. The initiative also addresses a critical institutional information gap, a foundational step toward strengthening wildfire prevention and response capacity at the national level.
