The subproject Fishing Traditions and Sharing Knowledge carried out by the Association of Artisanal Fisherfolk and Friends of Praia da Pitória (APAAPP, the acronym in Portuguese) has the main objective of promoting the integration and development of Community Based Tourism (CBT) of small-scale fishing in the Araruama Lake, based on the integration of the five fisherfolk‘s associations in the region, located in 3 cities in the Lakes Region. This integration is intended to achieve the following specific objectives: 1) Promote exchange with fisherfolk from Ilhabela, who practice CBT to exchange experiences and broaden the perspectives of the groups involved; 2) Promote 3 qualification courses for 40 fishermen and fisherwomen in the Port Authority, in community-based tourism and in the making of handicrafts and biojewels; 3) Acquire equipment and materials to carry out the CBT; 4) Adapt 45 fishing vessels to the legislation of the Port Authority to serve tourism (double classification: fishing and passenger transport); 5) Contribute to the improvement of local infrastructure; 6) Publicize the project “Fishing traditions and sharing knowledge” of CBT of small-scale fishing activity on social media. At the end of the subproject, 45 boats are expected to be prepared and equipped for CBT in the lagoon, and 40 fisherfolk qualified to receive visitors, in partnership with a community-based tourism operator for the sale of tour itineraries (routes) and handicrafts.
