Designed for Indigenous peoples and communities across territories in the Amazon, Pantanal, and Cerrado, the new project Tradition and Future – Weaving Pathways for Indigenous WellBeing aims to support 27 Indigenous Lands (ILs) in four Brazilian states(Acre, Pará, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul). The initiative recognizes the essential role of Indigenous peoples in biodiversity conservation and in responding to climate change and seeks to strengthen the connection between culture and nature, territorial protection, and the leadership of Indigenous youth and women.

The project represents an investment organized around six strategic pillars: Territorial and Environmental Management; Culture and Traditional Knowledge; Indigenous Differentiated Education; Rights; Food Security and Sociobiodiversity; and the Climate Agenda.

Planned actions include supporting the development and implementation of Territorial and Environmental Management Plans (PGTAs, the acronym in Portuguese), training Indigenous Environmental Agents, strengthening cultural practices, recognizing innovative Indigenous initiatives aligned with wellbeing and rights promotion, and fostering sustainable productive
chains.

The initiative is supported by the Petrobras Socioenvironmental Program, in partnership with regional Indigenous organizations, with FUNBIO responsible for financial and operational management.
