Institution responsible: Association of Indigenous Producers of Terra Caititu – APITC
Project Summary: The project aims to promote sustainable production and recovery of degraded areas within the Caititu Indigenous Land, contributing to the implementation of its Territorial and Environmental Management Plan (PGTA, the acronym in Portuguese), in a critical context of advancing deforestation in southern Amazonas. The initiative also aims to provide institutional strengthening of APITC and the valorization of traditional knowledge of indigenous women, especially related to the cultivation of medicinal plants and the processing of fruits, roots, seeds and flowers.
The initiative is expected to help forest conservation and reducing impacts of deforestation and contribute to food security and health within the Caititu Indigenous Land, which finds itself in an increasingly complex context due to its proximity to the urban center of Lábrea.
At the end of the project, the association is expected to be stronger and have greater management capacity to contribute directly to supporting the villages, addressing their demands. It is also expected to strengthen its operations in the territory, its autonomy in seeking new institutional partnerships (local and regional) and its resilience in demonstrating that other forms of development and income generation with the standing forest are possible. The project will last a year and a half.
