Institution Responsible: ProScience
The objective of the project is to ecologically restore degraded areas within and around the Chapada Diamantina National Park through a collective construction process and knowledge exchange with local communities and institutions. To achieve this, the project has been divided into three execution zones, considering their specific characteristics and geography: Southwest Atlantic Forest Zone, covering Capão do Correia, Caraíbas, Fazenda Ibicoara, and Campo Alegre; Itaetê Settlements Zone, covering the Baixão Settlement; Gerais do Parque Zone, covering Gerais do Vieira and Gerais do Morrão, located within the National Park. In total, 75 (seventy-five) hectares across these areas will be restored over a period of 30 months. The various techniques to be applied in the restoration process—such as Agroforestry Systems (SAFs), natural regeneration management, living fences, and green embrace for forest fragments—will be decided through participatory methods during the collective development of the project’s action plans. Sample units will then be established to evaluate the effectiveness of the methodologies. Throughout the project’s execution, training and technical guidance on best agroforestry practices will be provided to beneficiaries. Additionally, the project, its actions, and results will be widely disseminated to diverse audiences.
