The project aims to expand and improve the management of Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs) in the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. With a duration of 12 months, the project will work towards the implementation of public policies that strengthen voluntary conservation efforts in the Caatinga. One of the lines of action includes the identification of areas interested in establishing future RPPNs in Rio Grande do Norte, as well as the creation of a new RPPN in the state of Ceará.
The project also includes activities related to the development of Management Plans for two RPPNs, the revision of the Management Plan for the Serra das Almas RPPN, and the organization of a training course on the development of RPPN Management Plans in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Additionally, the project will support the implementation of actions outlined in the management plans of 5 RPPNs located in the municipality of Crateús, Ceará, with the goal of strengthening the management of these areas and contributing to the conservation of the Caatinga.
Among the planned actions are those aimed at improving public use, monitoring, and enforcement of protected areas, forming a forest firefighting brigade, maintaining firebreaks and fences, and acquiring camera traps for wildlife monitoring.
