back

Institution Responsible: AGENDHA – Advisory and Management in Studies of Nature, Human Development, and Agroecology

A total of 110 hectares of degraded areas within the Raso do Catarina Ecological Station (ESEC) will be restored, with priority given to the Mata da Pororoca. Additionally, a nursery will be established to produce 100,000 seedlings of native plants for both the Raso do Catarina Ecological Station and the agrobiodiversity of PCTAFs – Traditional Peoples and Communities, Extractivists, and Family Farmers in the surrounding areas of the Protected Area.

To achieve this objective, the following practices will be implemented for the restoration of degraded areas: (i) Restoration and sustainable management of soil, water, organic matter, and fertility, including the implementation and maintenance of contour lines and the mobilization of biomass from the ecosystem itself; (ii) Sowing, planting, and managing native species in “Contour Strips” within family and collective agroecosystems; (iii) Erecting successive interlocked stone barriers in reclining Roman arch formations; (iv) Establishing biodiversity-based plant cover to improve soil health; (v) Planting and managing species that support native fauna; and (vi) Recovering, multiplying, conserving in situ, and disseminating agrobiodiversity seeds from PCTAFs.
