The subproject proposed by the Association of Fisherfolk and Aquaculturists of Pedra de Guaratiba (APAPG) aims to continue improving the living and working conditions of fisherfolk and shellfish gatherers in the region. Having previously received support from the Underwater Warehousing CAA and demonstrated successful implementation, the institution was granted an additional opportunity through this Phase II. The initiative contributes to institutional growth and reinforces its role in supporting local communities.
The expected outcomes include the renovation of the APAPG building, which will create:
(1) Spaces conducive to a range of activities that meet the needs and interests of the local fishing community.
(2) Courses with high engagement and a positive impact on participants’ skills development.
(3) Research materials dedicated to advocating for the protection of the region’s traditional territory and promoting the dissemination of knowledge about the cultural heritage of small-scale fishing in Pedra de Guaratiba.
The subproject will run for 12 months and aims to benefit approximately 300 people, including small-scale fisherfolk and shellfish gatherers, as well as their families, all of whom are facing of socio-economic vulnerability.
